Kaleo Phillips

Son of James Hinano Phillips from the well-known and respected music group Kamali‘i Trio, Kaleo was raised
in the Hawai’i music industry. He followed in his father’s footsteps as he played with many other bands and musicians including Manu Kahaiali‘i (Willie K’s father), Aunty Waddi Kaina and Martin “Gramps” Pahinui. Through these performances, he was able to learn tricks of the trade and improve his musical talents. As Phillips immersed himself into the family business, he supported many of Hawai‘i’s well respected entertainers as a songwriter, musician and overall champion of the music of Hawai‘i. Now, with the unwavering support of these same entertainers like Willie K, Amy Hanaiali‘i, Jeff Rasmussen and many more, he is able to realize this dream come true.
Kaleo brings a new refreshing sound from his island home of Maui and wakes your heart up with a smile. He has performed professionally for many years, playing with a variety of Hawaiian artists and touring with bands across the globe. He released his first solo album, E Mama, dedicated to his mother, the theme of the album is centered on Kaleo’s ‘Ohana past, present and future and the unwavering strength that has held it together throughout time.
E Mama features eight beautiful original compositions by Kaleo, as the theme of the album suggests, many of these original compositions are dedicated to the people in his life. The title track was written for Kaleo’s mother, while the song “Pakalana” is a tribute to his wife. The other tracks are fond originals, either longtime favorites of Kaleo or songs that have a special meaning to him.
Jason Kaleo Phillips believed it when his uncle Willie K said there “ain’t nothing
better than living this island life,” and this is the spirit of “E Mama.” Phillips breaks out with his solo release
dedicated to his mother and produced by Maui Tribe Records. The theme of “E Mama” is family, past, present
and future and the unwavering strength that has held it together throughout time. “E Mama” is a personal
collection of songs to honor his ohana, places close to his heart, and the malama of Hawai’i’s culture.
“Kaleo Phillips brings a new refreshing sound from his island home, ‘Maui’ and wakes your heart up with a
smile!” comments iconic Hawai‘i entertainer Willie K. “...like me, he follows in his father’s footsteps in music!
Music that will make your spirit jump!”
Consisting of eight originals and four covers, Phillips provides an insight to those who influenced him and
touched his life, from the past, present and future. The title track, ‘E Mama’ pays tribute to Kaleo’s mother and is
an easy listening tune that opens the CD, drawing the listener into a journey of 12 songs, from lovely ballads to
uplifting melodies that, as Willie K states, “will lomi-lomi your mind.”
Phillips is proud to feature the amazing talents of Willie K, Kapena Delima, Jeff Rasmussen, Ikaika Blackburn,
Pi‘ilani Arias, Kamakoa Lindsey-Asing, Randy Lorenzo, Joshua Kahula, Justin Phillips, Tiana Malone-Kennings,
Wailau Ryder, Michael Suprenant, Aunty Waddi Kaina, and Damon Williams. Each individual brought their
unique talents and point of view to each song. Phillips states, “what can I say, I am blessed to have such
tremendous talent from our island home of Maui.”
“E Mama” is produced by Maui Tribe Records, distributed by Island Heritage Music and available at fine
retailers throughout Hawai‘i.
