DIZZY GILLESPIE™ ALL-STARS
Gillespie's legacy is probably best summed up by Gillespie himself in a statement that would sound a bit arrogant if it weren't so probable: "The music of Charlie Parker and me laid a foundation for all the music that is being played now... Our music is going to be the classical music of the future."

Given that the majority of his career took place after 1950 when the big band era was over, it’s especially notable that Dizzy continued to create brilliant music using the grand-scale formats of jazz big band and orchestra.
The Dizzy Gillespie™ All-Star group is the direct descendant of these ventures, and happily, the tradition lives on, nurtured by alumni and executive director, producer, and bassist John Lee.

*Dizzy left this world in 1993 and only his spirit and music will be present during the evening at Blue Note Napa.

The All-Stars feature:

Cyrus Chestnut – Piano. Equally adept playing with trios, groups, or alone, he tackles a broad range of styles with both taste and intelligence. He is universally recognized as one of the leading jazz pianists in the world.

Freddie Hendrix - Trumpet & Flugelhorn.  Over the past two decades, he has become one of the most in demand trumpeters in Jazz, and beyond. Also an accomplished composer, arranger and educator, his skill and versatility has resulted in him working with a wide array of performers.

John Lee – Bass. From 1984 thru 1993, John was Dizzy Gillespie’s bassist.  After Dizzy’s passing, his family asked John to create an ongoing tribute to the great man and his music—and the concept for the Dizzy Gillespie All-Stars was born.

Tommy Campbell – Drums. For those who have never experienced Tommy live, it is a treat not to miss!
